And isn't it just so pretty to think all along there was some invisible string tying you to me?

All I know is you said hello

and your eyes looked like coming home.

Greetings from Wulan!

Compassionate and friendly—Wulan often gets described by people around her that way. She always try to put herself into other's shoes to be able to emotionally connect with them before interacting further, not to mention how a good listener she is. But, if asked about her own misery, Wulan often chooses to hide them, waving it off like it's nothing worth the storytelling—also, sometimes become unavoidably distant when reality, especially about committing to someone, hits her too hard.

- Has a personal obsession with things related to the moon because she was introduced to the anime Sailor Moon by her mother since childhood.- Very fond of cold drinks. Without it, it feels like the world is not worth living in.- Being an MBTI INFJ-T, Wulan sometimes finds herself difficult and easy to blend in with others at the same time.- Spends her free time sleeping or just being alone in her room to recharge her 'energy'.

Tell me your name!

She wore a mask shaped like her own face,

and no one ever asked why.

At exactly 11:15 p.m., the cry of a little girl echoed from the operating room of one of the capital’s hospitals. A young couple in their twenties had just welcomed their first child—and they named her Wulan. Wulandari Khansania Nasution. She was beautiful, just like her name.As the only child in the family, Wulan was showered with love and attention. Especially from her grandparents, who often looked after her while her parents were busy with work. Her grandmother, in particular, raised her with warmth and quiet strength—teaching her how to be kind, how to stay calm, how to care for others before herself. Wulan carried those lessons with her long after childhood.

But being Wulan wasn’t always easy. Her parents, though present in the practical sense, were often emotionally absent. At the dinner table, they spoke more about work than about her day. She felt invisible sometimes. So she pushed herself—excelled at school, won competitions, did everything she could just to catch their attention. But nothing ever seemed to be enough.

Chapter One

Medan, October 21, 2002.

Then the arguments began. Quiet at first, then louder. Wulan would lie in bed at night, trembling under her blanket, listening to the sounds of broken glass and shouting. She told no one. Not even her grandmother. She didn’t want to burden anyone, not even as the weight of it all began to settle on her small shoulders.

Who do you want

to stay with?

The day finally came when her parents sat her down at the table—not for a family dinner, but to ask the question no child should ever have to answer:“Who do you want to stay with?”Wulan wanted to scream, Why do I have to choose? Why can’t you just stay together? But in the end, she made the hardest decision of her life. When she learned her mother had already been seeing another man, the choice became clear. She left with her father, even though it meant saying goodbye to her beloved grandparents and leaving Medan behind.

At sixteen, she moved to East Jakarta. Everything felt different. The language, the streets, the looks she got at school. She didn’t speak like the others. She didn’t belong. And for years, she didn’t have a single real friend. But she threw herself into what she knew best—studying. It was her anchor. And in the end, it paid off. Wulan was accepted into one of the top universities in the capital to study Information Systems. There, she finally began to find her rhythm. She made friends who shared her interests and didn’t tease her for her accent. She felt, for the first time, like she fit in.In her third year, she got into a relationship. Her father also met someone new—a woman Wulan genuinely liked. It seemed like things were finally falling into place. But just when Wulan thought everything was starting to go right, the universe had other plans. The relationship she once called love slowly turned into a cage. Her boyfriend—once gentle, once kind—began to change. He grew cold. Controlling. Manipulative. And in the most toxic part of their relationship, he did something Wulan would never forget. He crossed a boundary she never thought he would, leaving her body violated and her trust shattered.Wulan never told anyone. Not her friends. Not even her father. The pain, the confusion, the betrayal—it all stayed hidden behind the same smile she wore every day. She laughed, she helped others, she studied hard. But inside, something in her had broken. After they broke up, she tried to move on. But something had changed in her. She no longer trusted men. She’d get close, but never too close. The moment it started to feel real, she’d pull away. Cold. Detached. Unreachable. So she stayed the same on the outside—polite, kind, helpful. The perfect daughter. The cheerful friend. But it was just a mask. One shaped like her own face.

And sometimes, that mask was her greatest armor. And sometimes, her deepest prison.

I want to read about you, too
